Understanding Anger: It's a Signal, Not a Weakness
Anger is an emotion that signals something important to you feels threatened, blocked, or violated. It can arise when you perceive unfairness, disrespect, danger, or a loss of control. Anger is not inherently good or bad—it is information. Like physical pain alerts you to an injury, anger alerts you that something deserves your attention. The goal isn't to eliminate anger but to understand it and choose how to respond.
Healthy Anger vs. Unhealthy Anger
Feeling angry is normal; what matters is how you express it.
- Healthy anger can motivate you to set boundaries, solve problems, or protect what matters.
- Unhealthy anger occurs when it becomes frequent, intense, or is expressed through aggression, withdrawal, or resentment, causing harm to yourself or others.
Learning to recognize the difference is an important step toward emotional resilience.
